    Root of Madness

Post  Celdwyn Kirkland on October 5th 2012, 6:34 pm

It was The Night of Christmas Eve for Russians, and the one year old Second Player was playing with two little tin soldiers his father bought him for his birthday. One was American, and the other was Russian. His tiny hands had a hard time gripping the soldiers, but it didn't stop him from laughing every time the American one would fall and the Russian stood tall. He yawned just a slight bit, a small smile appearing on his face as he heard heavy footsteps of a boot, and the soft footsteps of shoes, he knew his parents were coming to wish him a good night and put him to bed.

Thick lashes lowered over twin blue orbs, shining brighter in the dim light than ever. What seemed to look like tears forming in those eyes threatened to slide down the pink, icy-cold cheeks of the possessor. Her face was slightly red from the terrible cold outside.. the tip of her nose, cheeks, lips and ears in particular, otherwise her skin was fairly pale. She had a lovely young, porcelain face and a mysteriously warm air about her. It looked like she enjoyed to laugh and smile, but tonight, that happy-go-lucky smile was turned upside down in a frown. Snowcapped boots tapped in a gentle manner on the floor, neither step she took wasn't strong enough to make the snow jump onto the floor. She had a white trench coat and a thick knitted pink scarf around her neck tall enough to hide half of her chin in the warm fabric. Melting snowflakes clung to the coat; her hair and pigtails were already soaked in the melted flakes. The steps halted in front of a door where a little boy played... that child was her son.

Tonight was the beginning of a nightmare.

She would do something cruel... it was cruel for her son and her own self. The female's lips parted to let out a sigh. Her hand hesitantly attacked the knob that she threatened to twist and swung the door open.

    "Reznov..."

Her voice was sweet and melodic, soft and filled with the familiar warmth and intimacy that only a mother would show to her children.
As soon as her gaze fixed on the child, her eyes softened and a small smile danced on her lips. The reason for her sanity was there, safe and sound... playing.
    "Sweetheart..."

Reznov turned to look at the woman who just walked in, a small smile had formed on his face as he knocked over his toys and crawled quickly over to the woman. He knew it was his dearest mother, and the only mother he would ever have in his life. He sat down in front of her, his arms raised up to her, even though he couldn't talk, he was saying in his head "Mummy! Pick me up!"

He looked more like his father, but still had some features of his mother, such as the dirty red and blonde color in his hair, and the bright blue of his eyes.

[Short reply because of soreness and tiredness.]

Alice attempted to offer a reassuring smile at her son, but it was weak and cracking.
"My dear, Reznov... oh, how I adore you", the mother chanted as she bent down to pick him up. She held him close and tightly in her arms, tears beginning to roll down her face. This was her goodbye hug for she may never see her beloved son ever again.

    I can't do it.

"Mummy has to go now. I don't expect you to ever forgive me, but please know that my love for you will never fade." Her head moved and she placed a gentle kiss on top of his forehead.

    I need more time.

"I will always think of you, alright? You will always be on mummy's mind."

My heart beats just for you.

    "Be nice to your father..."

    I adore you.

"...listen to what he tells you."

    I'm sorry.

She felt her eyes sting from the tears. She closed them tightly and her lips melted against her child's head. She held him firmly, yet gently, and clung to ever last moment they've spent together until they had to part.
