    The Lady Poison Saga

    Characters

    -Lady Oleander Poison
    -Severin Kain
    -Asher Hadley
    -Jinx Hayward
    -Jezebel Hayward
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Lady Oleander Poison
The tormented protagonist of our story. Clara Hayward was abused by her father and after being accused by her father of poisoning her mother, he disowned her naming her after the poison which killed his wife. To this day, Oleander is still haunted by visions of the past and stalked by members of Leviathan, a top secret organization who have a more insidious agenda. She is very cynical and morbid and has a very deep love and fascination for poison.

    Severin Kain
The Hayward family butler and Clara's only close confidant. Severin raised Clara when her father abandoned her. He is very loyal to her and he has made a vow to keep her safe from harm. It is implied that Severin cares genuinely for her as he is the only person that is close to her but he denies this. He will forever be by his mistress' side.

    Asher Hadley
World famous musician. As a child, he was betrothed to the Clara/Lady Poison. When he returns to England, he tries to win her affection but she is oblivious. His music soothes her pained soul and he happens to be very intelligent, having studied in a number of different countries and is quite a philosopher. He is unaware of Jezebel's crush on him.

    Jezebel Hayward
An orphan that Clara adopted believing she was her long lost sister. Jezebel is identical to Clara's deceased mother. She is determined to keep her safe and out of her cursed world. Jezebel, however, thrives on danger and loves it. She is strong and courageous. She detests being indoors. She has a crush on Asher Hadley but her feelings are unrequited.

    Jinx Hayward
Clara's psychotic older half brother. Jinx is a sadistic doctor who works for the mysterious organization, Leviathan. His back is scarred with whip marks just like Clara's but unlike her, he thinks of them as gifts of love. He is a total masochist. He despises Severin and loves his sister's eyes, hoping to cut them out and preform sadistic experiments on her. He enjoys to mock her by using her real name and leaving cryptic clues.

Author's Notes: This is fiction. I made this a while ago out of boredom. The setting is 19th century England and my main character is an aristocrat whom runs into misery and despair every corner she goes. If you wish for character profiles, I shall add them to this introduction topic. If people like this, then I will update this as often as I can :3 so I hope you enjoy~!

    Chapter One- Cursed

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 12:33 am

It was a dark and stormy night at the Hayward mansion. A young girl was crying. “Mama?” she said in between sobs. She saw that her mother was lying dead in the bed and she gasped. “Mama! Please wake up!” she cried harder as she sobbed over her mother’s lifeless body. He will beat me. Mama… he will blame me. Mama! Please don’t leave me alone with him! "MAMA!” she screamed. Thunder roared and yet she continued to sob. She heard footsteps coming and then her heart started to pound.

"Clara! CLARA HAYWARD! Where are you, child!?” someone roared. The little girl froze in terror at the sound. Soon a man found her. “What happened in here, child?” “Mama’s… dead” the little girl murmured. The man turned and saw the dead woman lying there. He went over to her and saw that the woman was holding a clear vial. He sniffed it and he then said ‘Poison.” He turned to his young daughter and said “You. You poisoned her.”

“Papa… I didn’t!” the little girl said. “I won’t have a murderer in this family. You little brat!” He grabbed the little girl’s hair and she gave out a cry. The man began to drag the girl outside despite her cries of pain. Outside on the cliff, he let the girl go. Her eyes widen for she was at the edge. “Papa… what are you…” “You murdered her. Clara Hayward, you are no daughter of mine! You are the poison that took away your mother! You are the same as that oleander sap that I smelled in that vial. I hereby strip you of your birth name! You shall be known as ‘Oleander’; this name shall haunt you for the rest of your life! You will be friendless and alone for you, the poison, shall be cursed from this day on! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

The little girl cried and said “Papa…” “Don’t call me that poison! I will now do the first part of your curse.” The man stared at the girl and took a step backwards… off the cliff. The little girl’s eyes widened in shock ‘Papa… no.” The man gave an evil smile and said “I, Cassius Hayward, hereby will plunge to my death from this cliff!” “Papa no!” “I am NOT your father! You are no child of mine! Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Cassius fell to his death and the little girl cried: “PAPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    10 years later...

My name is Oleander. Oleander Poison. I am sixteen years old and I am one of the most powerful aristocrats in all of England. I lost my mother due to poison and my father, who was traumatized over the event, plunged off a cliff and to his death. Since then, I had to live on my own and I was raised by my butler, Severin Kain. He has always been by my side and obeys my every command. Tonight, Severin is to escort me to an evening party. Oh how this should be fun…

”Severin, how much longer?” I ask. “We should be there in about five minutes, milady” Severin said. I sighed. Great. What am I suppose to do for another five minutes? I looked out the window and saw that we were driving past the London countryside. How very interesting…. I thought. Soon the carriage came to a halt and Severin opened the door. “We have arrived, Milady” he said as he took my hand to help me out.

I was wearing a long emerald green dress and a small Lolita hat to go with it. My purplish-whitish hair hung down to my mid-back and my emerald green-gold eyes shone in the moonlight. Severin was beside me wearing his black tailcoat suit and gray coat. His short black hair sparkled in the moonlight and his blue-gray eyes showed concern. “Let us go in, Milady” he said as he held my hand. I nodded and we slowly started to walk.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

As we entered the hall, I could see all the other guests turn their heads and take notice of me. A few of them started to whisper and I could hear every word that they were saying. “That Oleander girl is quite odd.” “Yes, I know. They say that she has a strange love and admiration for poison.” “What a strange child.” “I heard that she collects poison too!” “Oh how unladylike!” Oh shut it you old hags, I thought bitterly. I was well aware of the rumors that were being told about me. Everyone in the high society knew about my love for poison. That was how I was nicknamed ‘Lady Poison.”

“I heard that she’s sixteen and yet she doesn’t have a fiancé!” The gossiping ladies gasped and again exploded into more rumors. I tried my best to keep my anger in. The truth was many men fallen for me but I never truly loved them in a way that I would want to spend the rest of my life with them. The only man that ever got close to me was my butler, Severin. No one truly ever knew how to get close to my heart because my curse was to leave me alone one day.

I sighed and walked away from the gossiping women. As soon as I was separated from Severin, a group of men came to offer me a drink. I graciously declined and continued on my way. All I wanted was a place to sit down since I couldn’t find Severin and demand him to immediately take me back home. I found a nice chair in the corner where there was practically no one around. Making sure that I wasn’t noticed, I made my way to the chair and sat down.
I crossed my legs and put my head on my hand. I was bored, tired and really saw no point in this stupid gathering. I just wanted to go home but I was “required” to make an appearance tonight so unfortunately, not attending wasn’t an option. “Good evening, mademoiselle” a voice said. I looked up and saw a man. He was about 6’1” and he had dark brown hair and brown eyes. I already knew his name before he even spoke “Count Edward, I presume?” I said. The man bowed and said “At your service mademoiselle.”

I sighed and looked away from the count. “What is your name, mademoiselle?” I cracked a smirk at this and turned to face him. “Lady Poison” I said. “Lady Poison, would you join me in this dance?” I was unaware that a soothing, calmly waltz was being played by the orchestra. Without thinking, Count Edward took my hand and started to pull me towards the center of the room. “Hey!” I said but he took his hand and met it with mine. He wrapped his arm around and my waist and started to waltz with me.

As we danced, I heard the people whispering. “That’s Count Edward!” “Why is he dancing with Lady Poison?” “Do you think that he’s going to propose to her!?” Many people gasped. “No! She might poison him!” “Count Edward can get any woman that he wants as a fiancée but he can’t pick her!” I wanted to smack those ladies but something in the count’s eyes made me forget my anger as we glided across the dance floor.

When the waltz ended, the count took my hand and kissed it gently. “You are a beautiful dancer milady” he said with a smile. “Thank you for the compliment” I said as I started to turn away. “Wait, there is something that I want to ask you. Can you meet me outside the balcony, milady?” I closed my eyes and said ‘Alright.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I saw Count Edward standing outside the balcony waiting for me. “Ah milady” he said as he saw me approaching. I crossed my arms and stared at him “What is it that you want?” “Please sit down milady” Count Edward said as he gestured toward the empty seat across from him. I sat down on the chair across from him but I still kept my arms crossed. “Lady Poison, I have been watching you for a while now and well… the time has come for me to choose a bride. Would you marry me Lady Poi- no. Miss Oleander, would you marry me?”

Oh no. Not another poor fellow’s heart that I have to break, I thought.

“I’m sorry but I can’t” I said. “Why not?” “I am cursed. Forever cursed to a life of sorrow and solitude. Curses follow me and I wouldn’t want anyone innocent to get hurt” I sighed. Suddenly, I heard the sound of a gun fire and it was close. Another gunshot sounded and I heard everyone scream. I looked down next to me and saw that Lord Edward had been shot. I saw many people worrying and so I walked over the body and I smelt something…

I saw the bullet and I picked it up and inhaled its scent. My eyes widened at what I smelt. “Milady, are you alright?” Severin asked. I nodded and said “Severin, this bullet is not an ordinary bullet. It was filled with poison.” Everyone gasped and I said “My best guess would be Strychnine but if it is, then he doesn’t have much time to live. Hurry get him inside.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Severin took the count to lay into a room and I quickly began to work on an antidote. The effects of Strychnine poisoning is that it will slowly kill the nerves in the body in about twenty minutes or less. The Count was nearly shot in the head so the poison is working on killing his nerve system. Since he was shot into the brain, the effects of the poison will accelerate. If that is so and the Count dies, then I shall be blamed for it which I cannot tolerate.

I prepared the antidote which much care and hoped that I could save the Count. “This should do the trick. Stand back” I said as I filled the antidote in the syringe. The Count was writhing in pain for his muscles were beginning to spasm and his body temperature was fading fast. I injected him with the anesthesia so he wouldn’t feel much pain. “There is no antidote, is there, milady?” Severin asked. I felt a cruel smile take place on my lips as I said “Not one so far. Oh well, I always wanted to see what strychnine poisoning did to the human body. I still wonder why that it was the Count though. It’s obvious that they were aiming to take my life.” “Milady, I have already prepared the carriage. Shall we depart?” Severin asked. I pulled my cloak over my shoulders as I said, “Yes before I somehow get blamed for all this mess.”

As I exited the mansion, I went back to my deep thinking. Who was after me? To target someone as random as Count Edward of the esteemed McHenry family was suspicious. No… there was someone out there who knew what they were doing and who they were targeting. A simple assumption could be acquired that they meant to kill me but… they could have simply framed me. That could be it…

It was obvious that most of London knew about my attraction and knowledge of some of the most deadly poisons in the world. If someone planned to kill another person using a strong poison such as strychnine, the most logical thing that someone could think of is that they would somehow set it up, making it seem like I killed them since I am already a shifty character in the aristocracy anyway…

All these thoughts and assumptions went back and forth through my head, like it was a murder mystery because it certainly was. “Severin, how far are we from the mansion?” I asked. “We are nearly there, milady” he replied. “Good. When we return, I wish not to be disturbed for I will be in my study… and poison cellar.” “As you wish, milady.”

Hmm… it had been a while but I could swear that I remembered obtaining strychnine poison for my… ‘collection’ and I have been eager to see how the poison worked… but what if the murderer somehow obtained my sample of it which would even prove my theory of how they planned to frame me. I chuckled silently to myself. I guess I shall find that out when we return back to the mansion…
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

We returned back to the mansion and I made sure that Severin or any of my other servants were NOT to disturb me. I went to my study first as I saw that I had a huge stack of paperwork to fill out. I sat at my desk and started to go through the stack. It was all just boring paperwork that required me to read and sign. I was about to give up until I heard a THUD! I picked up an envelope and saw something that caught my eye.

The envelope itself was normal parchment but the seal… was unique. The seal was from someone of noble lineage for it was an oil seal but it was black and had the design of a rose. Inside the rose design were the initials ‘J.H’. ‘J.H?’ How curious. I opened the envelope and was indeed surprised to see that a letter was addressed to my arrival at the same party that I had just returned from.

    Dear Lady Poison,

I must admit what a strange title but the more interesting it is. I wish to request your presence at the Handerson mansion tonight at 8 pm. The mansion is secluded from the city by hiding itself in the countryside. I will tell you my identity when the two of us meet. If by some chance that you can’t make it to this event, I shall send a second notice of our meeting early tomorrow evening. I look forward to meeting you face-to-face… Lady Poison.

    Regards,
    J.H

A meeting, huh? I slipped the letter back into the parchment envelope and then I put it inside a drawer of my desk. The grandfather clock chimed, indicating that it was past eleven o’clock. The door opened to reveal Severin and one of my maids whose name I clearly could not remember. “Milady, it is past eleven and you should be sleeping by now.” “I’m not stupid, Severin. I know that I should be asleep. Why is she, here?” I asked staring at the maid. “Please pardon me, milady. My name is Lillian Blair. I am to undress you.”

Umm… no. There are some things that people should not see when giving me a bath or undressing me…

“Pardon me, Miss Blair but I prefer if I did it myself.” “Milady… would you like it if I did it?” I did not respond as I walked into my room. I closed the door and began to pick at the buttons on the dress. “Allow me, milady” Severin said as he pulled the dress off me. “Severin… why would you allow that stranger to undress me? You know how I feel about my body and… the marks.” I shuddered as Severin undid my corset. “I thought that since you were getting older… you would prefer someone else to tend to these tasks.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. You raised me since I was born. You are the only one who actually knows me and how I feel about all this.” “Understood.” Severin had stripped me down and then he put my long sleeved cotton nightdress on. I started to brush out my hair and then braided it to keep it from tangling in the middle of the night. “Have a good sleep, milady.” “Good night.” Severin walked out with the candelabra and I began to ponder my thoughts once again before drifting off into an uncontrollable sleep.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

A young man sat at his desk in his clinic as he poked a strange specimen. He smiled as he said “What an interesting night this has been.” He had been at the Handerson mansion and he saw who he wanted to meet: Oleander Poison. She has grown quite a bit, he thought. He also observed the death of Edward McHenry and was quite impressed by Oleander’s knowledge behind the rare poison. He picked up a dart as he said the following words, “It will be a joy to see you again… Miss Poison.” The dart landed right in the middle of a photograph of a young girl who was about six and the man smirked quite cruelly as he removed the dart. Underneath the picture of the six year old girl were the words: "Clara Hayward."

    Chapter Two- Meeting with Death

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 1:06 am

    2. Meeting with Death

“You are no child of mine! I curse you! You will forever be alone and friendless for the rest of your life! Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I awoke and realized that it was just a dream. My forehead was drenched with sweat and then the door opened to reveal Severin. “It is time to wake up milady.” I looked out of the window and saw that it was indeed morning. I sighed and then finally got out of bed.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“What’s my schedule for the day, Severin?” I asked. “Very well. You have your violin lessons this morning, then afternoon tea with Lady Disraeli. After the tea, we are to report back home for dinner and you have a little bit of schoolwork and a few reports to file. By the way, this came in the mail this morning.” “Let me see it.” Severin handed me another letter and it was just like the one that I found last night. I opened it and started to read it.

    Dear Lady Poison,

I apologize for not informing you sooner. I request that our meeting shall be moved later on this evening. Let’s meet in the park around seven. I’ll see you soon.

    Regards,
    J.H

“Humph. Severin, I’m afraid there is a delay in our schedule. Oh well, this should be interesting.” I put the letter back into the envelope and began to drink my morning tea. “I shall prepare the carriage immediately.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

We arrived at the Disraeli family mansion. “OLEANDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” a sound said and then two arms embraced me into a tight hug. “I missed you!!!!!!!!!!! You really should visit me more often, you know.” I sighed and then said “Rahzenshia, let me go.” “Call me Rahzel!” “Rahzel… please release me.” Rahzel did and I was trying hard to breathe again. “Miss Rahzenshia! Oh forgive me Miss Oleander. Miss Rahzenshia has been expecting your visit for quite some time now. Lady Disraeli would like to speak with you in the parlor.” “I see. I will be there shortly.”

“I’m just so happy now that Oleander is here” Rahzel said as she smiled big. Rahzenshia was about twelve years old and she had bright blue eyes, with long wavy hair. She was a twin and she was the youngest. Her elder brother, Azareal looked identical to her with their appearances but he was more mature while Rahzel was more childish and crazy. Since the first time I met them, Rahzel became my little stalker. She somehow became attached to me and that was that.

“Azareal is being mean to me” Rahzel pouted. “He won’t play with me.” “I see. Well, I came to see your mother. She said, she has something for me.” “We’ll play later. I’ll take you to see Mommy.” “Thank you, Rahzel.” Rahzel showed us to the parlor and the lights danced off her light blue dress. “Mommy!” Rahzel said as she went to hug her mother. “Hello, Lady Disraeli” I said. “Lady Poison… please sit. Rahzenshia, go practice your piano.” “Okay! I can show Oleander what I learned!” She zoomed off and then I heard some piano music from the other room. The melody was soothing and relaxing.

Venezia Disraeli was also a beautiful aristocrat. She had the same bright blue eyes as her children did but her dark hair was cut short. She was wearing a blue and white dress which blended in with her skin color. “I apologize for my daughter’s behavior” she said as she poured a cup of tea. “She still must have her attachment towards you.” She handed me the tea cup and I said, “Thank you.” “Now to business. I inspected the Handerson mansion after the strychnine poisoning and I found this.” Venzia held a bright blue crystal vial which I assumed, held the poison. “Let me see it” I said as I held my hand out.

Venezia handed me the bottle and I took a good look at it. It was designed beautifully by skilled hands. “It can be made that the strychnine was held in this vial” Venezia said. Then the doors opened and in came Rahzel with Azareal as she was chasing him with a toy. “I’m going to get you Azareal!” Rahzel taunted as she chased her brother around the room. “RAHZENSHIA ROSE AND AZAREAL AIDEN DISRAELI! LEAVE THE ROOM IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Venezia screamed. “Azareal, go practice your violin and Rahzenshia… go practice the piano or I will give you both a spanking!” Both Azareal and Rahzel gulped at how their mother screamed at them. “We’re sorry” they said as they bowed before running towards the door.

The door slammed shut and Venezia took another sip of tea. “Never have children Oleander. They are a pain” she said, bitterly. I chuckled. “Well that may never happen for I am cursed to a life of solitude” I said. “Before I was rudely interrupted, it can be assumed that the poison was carried in that vial.” “Just who was the one who carried it though. That is the real question.” “That is all I found at the mansion. My next logical guess is that you could go into London and find the person who made that vial.” “Thank you for the help, Venezia. I shall visit again soon.” “It was my pleasure Oleander. I will await your next visit and maybe you can take the kids on holidays.” I laughed and then said “Farewell, Venezia Disraeli.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I looked over the crystal vial and at the craftsmanship that was put into it. London, huh? Maybe we can find the artisan that created this… or more importantly, the person who bought it, I thought. I thought. The carriage stopped and I saw that we were in the London market. “Milady, we’re at the market.” “Do you have any idea who made this?” “The vial doesn't say but we might as well look around.”

    (3rd person)

The man from before was in the London market. Easily in the crowd, he found Oleander. He had seen her multiple times before but she had not seen him. He chuckled at himself as he turned to walk the other way. “I look forward to this evening… Lady Poison.”

    (Normal P.O.V)

Severin and I walked up to the local artisan and we waited inside. “Hello, there. Is there anything that I can help you with?” “Yes. Did you make this crystal vial?” I gave the crystal vial to the artisan and he examined it closely. “Yes, yes I remember this. Fine workmanship, if I do say so myself.” “Do you remember who you sold the vial too?” “He was a man of great taste. I don’t remember his name though but he looked like he was up to something…” “I see. Do you know where I can find this man?” “I am sorry dear. I can’t remember anything about the man.” “I see. The thing is, I was wondering did you send any shipments of crystal vials out to anyone but me?”

The artisan thought for a moment and then he said “I sent a shipment of medicine vials to the clinic. I would say that the man who bought that bottle could of worked there as a physician or surgeon for that matter.” “Really, now? I think I shall take a look at this man. Thank you for the information.” I bowed and started to turn and walk the other way.

“Wait! I didn’t catch your name” the artisan said. I turned around slowly and meeting his blue eye with my green-gold ones, I whispered, “It’s a secret.” I put my finger to my lips and then turned and walked away. I chuckled silently to myself at the artisan’s dumbfounded expression.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

All clues point to the clinic. Great… I hate doctors. I looked outside and I saw that it was sunset. I guess the clinic will have to wait. Time to meet with death, I thought. Severin opened the carriage door and I saw that we had reached the park. I tightened the cloak that was around my shoulders and smoothed out my white and black gothic style dress. It was a little chilly tonight but I needed to find out who this ‘J.H’ was and if I could use them to my advantage. I shivered from the cold.

“Milady, are you freezing?” Severin asked. “I’m just a bit cold.” Dammit. Where is this ‘J.H’? I have important matters to attend to. I felt something warm on my shoulders and I turned to see that Severin had taken his jacket off and gave it to me. “You’ll freeze to death, you know.” He held his hand up and then bowed, “If my lady is cold then it is my duty as her servant to warm her up.” I looked away for I wasn’t used to this feeling. Then I felt even warmer for Severin was embracing me. “Are you warm now, milady?”

“I’m fine, Severin. Where is this person?” “I am so terribly sorry for my tardiness, Lady Poison.” I turned to look and I saw a man dressed in black. He had long blonde hair and deep green eyes and also some eyeglasses. “’J.H’” I murmured. The man bowed as he said, “At your service… Lady Poison.” He said my name very slowly, like he was carefully pronouncing each syllable in fear that they may indeed be venomous. “I demand you to tell me who you are.” The man smiled as he said, “I have known you for a while. I have seen you but you have not seen me. My name is Jinx Hayward.”

‘Hayward’!? I gasped for I never knew that I had a half-sibling. “Yes. I have been watching you for quite some time… Clara.” I growled at the remembrance of that horrid name for it reminded me of that evil man. “My name is Oleander.” “Clara… don’t lie to me. After all we are family” Jinx said with a smirk. I growled at him again. His smirk got bigger. “I have a question for you Jinx … have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?” “I can’t say that I haven’t. Why?” The moonlight shone down on us as I said with a smirk, “Then how about a child of the devil?”

I soon lashed out at Jinx and the two of us began our little ‘dance.’ I carried a knife with me whenever I went out but I was shocked at how Jinx came prepared. He laughed. “I knew that this visit would go awry.” I pressed my blade down harder but he threw me aside. He slashed at my dress, barely getting enough blood from my arm but it wasn’t a serious wound. While I was bleeding, he took a vial and filled it with my blood. “Alas, our meeting ends here. Farewell Clara. Father and I will see you soon.” Jinx vanished while laughing.

“Milady, are you alright?” Severin asked as he saw that I was bleeding. I clutched the wound and then he lifted me up. “We should return back to the manor.” I looked at Severin and just simply nodded.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“AHHH! Easy!” I screamed at Lillian. “Oh! Was the water too hot? I am so sorry milady!” she said as she bowed. Lillian began to tend to my wound. I was wearing a tank top so the wound could be tended too but I really did not like how if Lillian was curious, she would see the whip marks that permanently scarred my back. Lillian bandaged my arm and then I told her to leave and get Severin so I could get ready for bed. She obeyed and then I threw the tank top off. I took a long look at all the scars that man had given me. I shuddered at the remembrance of the abuse.

“Milady, are your scars sore?” Severin asked as he stood behind me. I didn’t answer him as I put on my cotton nightdress. “It doesn’t matter. That man took my dignity and then he cursed me. Just how much more can he take away from me?” I looked down and then, this was something that I would never do, I hugged Severin’s waist as my eyes started to water. “Don’t leave me Severin. Please… never leave me. I need you by my side” I said as I started to cry.

Severin cupped my face into his hands as he said “I shall never leave you, milady. I am here to serve you until the bitter end.” I spent a good ten minutes sobbing at that and then Severin dried my tears as he said “We have a busy day tomorrow. I suggest you go to sleep now.” He tucked me in and then bowed. “Good night, milady.” “Night…” I said for I was exhausted. The door shut and just as I was about to fall asleep, Jinx’s words came into my mind. Father and I will see you soon.” Why would he say that? He must be toying with me but that man can’t be alive after jumping off a cliff? Is he? I fell asleep contemplating those thoughts.

Jinx smirked at the vial of Oleander’s blood that he had obtained. His phone rang and he answered it. “Hello? Yes. I have her blood. I shall begin my research analysis and I shall send you the results. Goodbye.” He hung up and then he stared at the beautiful liquid once again. “Ah, Clara’s blood. I wonder why Father wanted it so badly?” Clara sure has grown. She is not a child anymore but… she will be in store for the many surprises that I have in store for her. “Poison, huh? I think differently.” She will be a beautiful test subject for some of my experiments… Jinx laughed maniacally and he put the vial on the rack.

    Chapter Three- Jinx's Clinic

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 10:23 am

    3. Jinx's Clinic

My arm ached like hell. Mental note: Next time you see Jinx, make him pay for the wound he gave you. “Milady, we are off to visit the clinic.” “Maybe they can do something about this damn wound that bastard gave me!” I scowled. Severin chuckled and said “Perhaps but we are still trying to find out who bought the vial.” “The clinic, huh? Maybe someone can give us a clue. I’m surprised that the police aren’t doing anything to solve the murder. Can’t say that I am either; I just want to find out who obtained the strychnine and why they want to kill me” I said.

“Here we are. The clinic.” We stepped out and I saw that it was a very peculiar building. It was of the gothic style and had many painted windows. It looked like it wasn’t that busy but I wanted to know about the shipment. “Excuse me, but did you order a few shipments of these crystal vials?” I asked one of the staff to tell me. She took one look into my eyes and I instantly ensnared her. “Yes. We needed these vials to refill some of our medicines.” “Did you send someone to pick the vials up?” “Yeah. Our head doctor… he usually keeps to himself in his study.” “I see. May I see this study?”

“I am sorry. That is the head doctor’s place. Even the rest of the staff isn’t allowed to be in there.” “How unfortunate. Well, excuse me.” I walked over to Severin and whispered in his ear, “The head doctor ordered and went to personally collect the vials. This head doctor spends a lot of time in his study. Do you know what I am thinking? Let’s break into that office and look at the records.” “Yes, milady.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Later that night, Severin and I returned to the clinic and we preceded with our plan to search the study. I started to go through the desk to try and find any important paperwork but then I heard a familiar voice. “You’re suppose to ask before going through other people’s belongings… Clara.” “Jinx” I growled. “How courteous of you to visit my clinic. Would you like me to treat that wound?” Jinx chuckled as he held a needle. Severin stepped in front of me. “You shall not harm a hand on my lady” he said in a dangerous tone.

“Ah Severin Kain. Father told me about you and your relationship with Clara. I must say I am quite sickened by it. Love is useless and you are just a servant!” Jinx ran up to strike Severin but Severin blocked him and tried to push him away. “I made a vow that I would protect my lady until my last breath and when a gentleman gives his word… he means it.”

“How irritating. I shall finish you off.” Severin pushed me out of the way as he faced Jinx. I took the opportunity to go through the file folders. I grabbed a handful of them while avoiding the two of them fighting. “Tell me, what is your relationship with Clara? Are you lovers?” Jinx said. “She is my lady. I raised her after that horrid man plunged off a cliff.” “You should watch your mouth when speaking about Father that way.” Jinx had a dangerous look in his eye.

He turned to look at me. “Father is thinking about taking you back.” “I’d rather die. That man was never a loving father! My back is filled with scars for he would whip me daily! It is obvious that he hates me!” Jinx was silent for a moment. “That… can be arranged, dear sister.” Jinx turned around and then he stabbed a bottle of petroleum. It leaked everywhere and then he lit a match. “ Dasvidania Clara” he smirked quite evilly as he dropped the match.

Soon the office was sent ablaze and Jinx fled taunting me with laughter once again. [i]The files!
I rushed to save them from the fire but the fire spread much more quickly than I could imagine. “Milady!” Severin shouted as he pulled me away. “We need to find a way out of here” I said, calmly. “Agreed.” I went to the window and saw that they were locked. We were on the second floor and I sighed. Things like this always happen to me. I hate that man for placing this curse upon me. I looked at the wall and I could see that a picture of me from when I was six was on the wall.

I cringed as I remembered that god forsaken name that man had stolen from me and gave me this cursed one: Oleander Poison. I looked away from the picture and back at the desk. There were vials of all kinds of different substances but I saw that one was missing. I knew which one it was; The vial that Jinx had filled with my blood. “Milady! We must leave immediately!” Severin called. He lifted me up and jumped out of the window.

We landed on the ground and we turned around to see that Jinx’s clinic was burning down to ash. I clutched the file folders and then turned to Severin. “I have what I need. Let us return back to the mansion.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I sat at my desk as I went through the file folders. I picked up another picture of me from when I was young. Are you obsessed with me Jinx? That’s more than creepy. The files all contained information about me and of this strange experiments. What kind of doctor is he!? Looking through the records, I also saw that Jinx was part of this strange organization known as Leviathan. Leviathan? What is their purpose and their goal? I looked through the next file folder and it told me all about Leviathan. It was filled with more test results and dates.

I read a notice letter and then my blood froze when I read the signature at the bottom. ‘SEVERIN!” I screamed. “What’s the matter, milady?” I sat at my desk, my eyes wide with shock and then I said slowly, “He’s alive. That bastard is alive.” “Milady?” I fell out of my chair and Severin caught me. “He’s alive! My father… is alive!” I covered my face in Severin’s arms and he comforted me.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

“Oh boy. It seems my work is destroyed. At least I still have this” Jinx said as he held the vial of blood up to the moonlight. It’s a shame. Clara would have made such a beautiful test subject for my experiments. . He smirked as he started to walk down the street. There is always next time and next time… I won’t let her escape me. You will be mine… Clara, Jinx thought as he chuckled.

    Chapter Four- The Last Song

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 10:24 am

    4. The Last Song

“You are cordially invited to witness the talent of Mr. Asher Hadley on October 27th. We hope you look forward to this brilliant performance.” I threw the invitation to the ground. “What rubbish” I said as I sighed. “Milady, isn’t October 27th-” “Yes.” I looked out the window as I tried not to cry. “October 27th… is my birthday.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Mr. Hadley, how is it to be back in London?” “I missed London so very much.” “Why did you come back? You’re a famous violinist, pianist, and cellist. Why come back to London?” Asher Hadley just smiled as he said “I made a promise with someone that I would be back.” “Is it a girl?” “A very important friend of mine. I met her when I was a child and we made a promise.” “What was the promise?” “I’m sorry but that’s all I have time for. Now if you excuse me.” “Mr. Hadley!”

I’m glad that is finally over. Now… I can focus my concentration on different manners. “Sir, did you send the invitation to the address?” “Yes, sir. Miss Oleander Poison was sent the invitation to the concert.” “It has been too long since I last seen her. My mother promised me that I would have her hand but I never met her until… that day.” “Well… all I know is that she received the letter but I’m not sure if she’ll come.” “I see. I must practice now. Farewell, sir.”

I haven’t forgotten that day. It was her birthday just as it is on the date of the concert. However… she wasn’t happy. She told me all she got for her birthday was a whipping from her father. Such a horrid man he was to have whipped his own daughter. I told her my dream. My dream of being a famous musician. I played her a song on my violin for her birthday and I was even more confident on fulfilling that dream. Her smile was beautiful. I wanted to see more of that smile. I promised her that I would come for her when I became famous. That was ten years ago… I doubt she will remember me… but rest assured, I fell in love with her smile and finding out that she was my promised bride… I became even more determined to achieve my dream. I want to see her smile again.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Asher Hadley, huh?” I asked. His name sounds vaguely familiar but I don’t recall why. “You called, milady?” “Severin, make me something to eat.” “What would you like?” “Something sweet… like a parfait.” “Right away, milady.” I put my hand on my chin and began to think again.

Asher Hadley? I narrowed my eyes in thought. Severin came back with my parfait and I saw that he had put a strawberry on top. I took my fork and ate the strawberry first. I slowly made my way to eat the whole parfait. “Milady, you seem stressed. Is there anything wrong?” “Always the observant one aren’t you Severin?” I licked the frosting off my lips. “Well… now I know that horrid man survived the fall off that cliff ten years ago. Knowing that fact scares the hell out of me. We also know that there is this secret organization called Leviathan and that crazy of a nut half-brother of mine, Jinx, is probably a member.” I took a sip of my tea. “Someone is also out to kill me. I wonder if these things are connected…”

“So you want me to cancel the concert outing?” I closed my eyes to think for a second. “It does seem strange that I am invited to a concert. However… this Asher Hadley sounds very familiar. Do not cancel. I shall go attend that but that’s because I want to know who this Asher Hadley character is. He could be useful…” I said. Severin nodded and I picked up the envelope. It contained two tickets and a backstage theater pass. I sighed and then said “A night at the theatre huh? How interesting.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Milady, the carriage is ready” Severin said. I was wearing a black gown with a choker. My hair was in a bun with a few strands of hair curled around my face. I wasn’t a fan of earrings but I had a pair of pearl earrings on just for the night anyway. I also had black satin gloves on. If you asked me, I looked like I was attending a funeral rather than the theatre. “Let us take our leave then” I said, giving Severin my hand.

Inside the carriage, I was silent. Many thoughts ran through my head. “Milady, it will be alright” Severin told me as he took my hand. “I just hope you are right about that” I sighed.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

“Mr. Hadley! You are on in 30!” Asher went to his dressing room but was surprised to see someone sitting there. “What are you doing here, sir?” “Asher Hadley… I presume?” “Yes. That would be me.” The man smirked and said, “Quite a violinist, aren’t you?” He picked up Asher’s Stradivarius violin, one of the most expensive violins ever. “Please don’t drop that.” “My apologies. Tell me… do you plan to play this violin, this evening?” “That’s right. Now please excuse me but I have a guest coming tonight” Asher told the man.

The man stood up and put down the violin. “I must get to my seat. Break a leg Mr. Hadley.” “That is for plays, my dear sir.” “Oh? Well I’m just saying, “good luck” on your performance.” “Well, thank you for being so kind but I’m sure I won’t need it.” The man bowed and took his leave. No really I hope you break a leg… Asher Hadley.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (Normal POV)

I took my seat and ignored the gossip people were saying about me. The show would start soon and so far, the theatre audience was chatty and it was crowded. I fanned myself for it was getting hot inside and then the curtains rose. Asher Hadley was wearing a white dress suit and he had blonde hair and from this angle, almost blue-green eyes. He smiled and he said, “Welcome. I am Asher Hadley and we are in for quite a show tonight. Please sit back, relax and I hope I can bring a smile to you all.”

He began to play his violin. It was a slow, almost melancholy tune and it was almost familiar to me. Severin was beside me and we watched. During the performance, I thought that Asher Hadley was staring only at me which I felt a bit odd about. “Milady… is something troubling you?” Severin whispered to me. “No Severin, I just feel… dizzy…” Asher Hadley’s melody was making me very sleepy for some reason. My eyes started to drift and then everything was black.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

The strange man from before smirked cruelly. This will be the last song everyone will hear due to that poison I planted in the violin. Once it is played, anyone who hears it will fall into a deep sleep and then eventually death. Then when the performance is done… the poison will kill Asher Hadley as well… I am so glad I came to the theatre!
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Milady? Milady!” Severin said, as he tried to tap Oleander awake but she wouldn’t budge. It’s the music… it’s putting the audience to sleep! Wait… what’s that smell? Severin sniffed the air and his bluish-gray eyes widened. Poison! It’s coming from the violin!

“Milady! Please wake up! The violin is toxic!” Oleander didn’t awake and Severin reached into his pocket and pulled out some earplugs. “Forgive me, milady but you left me no choice.” He put the earplugs in her ears, to block the toxic lullaby from poisoning Oleander. Slowly, she began to open her eyes. She looked around and saw Severin. “What’s going on?” she mouthed. “The violin is poisoned” Severin mouthed back to her. “Let’s go” she mouthed as she began to leave her seat and walk towards the stage.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (Normal P.O.V)

So… the violin is poisoned, huh? I made my way to the theatre stage where Asher Hadley was playing and he stared at me. “Please stay in your seat” his mouth said. “Your violin is poisoned” I said. “Poisoned? My dear lady… there is no poison on my violin.” “Yes there is, sir. My lady here detects it and she is quite a collector of rare poison.” Asher’s eyes widened and he said, “So YOU’RE Lady Oleander Poison! I’ve been expecting you!” He stopped playing and the audience were motionless.

“Oh my, what happened?” “Severin, hand me the violin” I said. Severin took the violin and I took a look at it. Sure enough someone had poison powder placed inside it so as Asher Hadley played, the poison would spread not only around him but also to everyone in the whole theatre. “Just as I thought, poison powder.” Asher Hadley stared in shock and I looked at him. “How did this poison get into the violin?” Asher shrugged and then a familiar voice said, “I put the powder in it.” My eyes widened and I said, “Hello Jinx.”

Jinx smiled cruelly and said, “Hello… my darling, Clara.” I cringed. “Clara Hayward… is dead, Jinx.” Jinx smirked and said, “Not yet.” “So YOU were the one who put the poison in my violin!” Asher shouted. “It would have been the last song that everyone would have heard… and your last performance Mr. Hadley…” Jinx explained. He turned to stare at me and he had a sadistic look in his eye. “Clara… have I ever told you that you have beautiful eyes? Eyes like those… would make a fine addition to my ‘collection’” Jinx said with a dark chuckle.

Severin put a protective arm around me. “You shall not lay a finger on my lady” he threatened. “Again with these sickening display of your loyalty but I’ve wasted enough precious time. Clara will make a perfect specimen for my experiments.” Jinx had a crystal sphere in his hand and threw it towards us. “Think fast!”

Smoke erupted from the sphere and we all coughed. Then I felt a hand grab my waist. “You’re coming with me, Clara.” “Let me go!” I hissed. Something sharp pierced my arm and my vision started to fog. “You bastard…” I passed out.

    (3rd person)

Jinx smiled as he left the theatre; Oleander was passed out in his arms. Today is your birthday, isn’t it Clara? In her passed out state, she actually looked like an angel. Jinx smirked as he carried Oleander to a carriage. “Excellent Jinx. Hold on to her until the boss says you can bring her back.” “Trust me… I planned to do that” Jinx said. As the carriage left, Jinx climbed in his own carriage and laid Oleander against the seat. They drove off. Oh do I have a special birthday gift for you… Clara.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Milady? Milady. Where are you?” Severin called. She’s gone? No. That bastard must have taken her. Once I find him, I am ripping his vocal cords out! “Who was that guy?” Asher asked Severin. “He is our enemy and he has taken my lady. I must get her back.” “I’m coming with you!” Asher said. Severin shook his head. “No. She is my mistress and it is my duty as her faithful servant to retrieve her.” “I am going whether you say I am or I’m following you there. I am NOT leaving her.” ‘Why do you care about my mistress? Do you know her?” Severin asked. “I met her a long time ago… and I don’t want her to live like this. I am going to find her and when I do… I will fulfill that promise that I promised to her all those years ago.”

Severin stared at Asher and then he admitted defeat. “Fine. Let’s go. The longer we stand here fighting, the more time she is with that sadistic doctor.” Severin and Asher ran out the theatre and into the dark London streets to find Oleander.

    Chapter 5- The Clock Tower

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 10:55 am

    5. The Clock Tower

    (Normal POV)

“Papa, stop!” I cried. My back burned from the whip marks. “Six whips for you… for your sixth birthday. One…” The whip cracked my back and I screamed in agony. “Two… three… four… five…“ The whip snapped and my back was all bloody and tears filled my eyes. “… and finally… six.” The last whip hurt the worst. Blood fell from my body and mixed with my tears. “Happy birthday” my father said, quite sadistically. He threw me into the corner and I landed face first on the floor. Why? Why do you hate me, Papa? I felt weak. I had just turned six and every year on my birthday, I received a beating… and a whipping. I was whipped on how old I was turning. No cake… no presents… just pain.

“Get up you little bitch” my father hissed. I slowly tried to get up but I must not have got up fast enough for Father grabbed my hair. “I SAID GET UP!” I screamed, “Papa! It hurts!” He kicked me towards the lavatory. “Wash your disgusting body off. There’s blood all over you.” I nodded weakly to him. “Then when you’re done with that, go outside and bring some color to you. You look as white as a ghost… and LOOK AT ME WHEN I’M TALKING TO YOU!” He slapped me and more tears came to my eyes.

“Y-Yes sir” I said, trembling. He growled. “I’ll deal with you later now wash.” He shoved me inside and then left.

    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

With all the dirt and blood off me, I went outside. The sun burned my eyes and if people saw me, they thought I was a revolting sight. I was deathly pale and so skinny. My hair which was almost a darkish blonde color had been cut short. It was an attempt to have my father stop pulling it but he just pulled harder. My green-gold eyes looked washy as if I had been crying… which I have. My arms, legs and back were covered with bruises and the white dress I was wearing was faded. The servants never spoke to me so I felt increasingly isolated and alone while my father hated and would spend his hours beating me.

I was out in the garden staring at a white oleander. Then I heard something. It was music and it sounded… lovely. I followed it and saw a boy who was a little older than me playing a violin. I watched him for a while and then… his blue-green eyes noticed me.

I turned to run but he said, “No wait! Please!” I froze in terror. I was never allowed out the mansion only once in a while. The boy was quite beautiful. He had blonde hair that looked like gold and blue-green eyes. He was fine and healthy with rosy cheeks and he was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with a black vest and trousers. I looked so… unattractive next to him. “What is your name?” he asked me. I hesitated. Should I be speaking with him? Father may beat me again… but I so want a friend. I hate being alone… it should be alright, I thought.

“Clara… Clara Hayward” I murmured as I fidgeted. “I’m Asher. Asher Hadley” he smiled. “Nice to meet you, Clara.” I nodded. I stared at his violin and he said, “Do you like it?” “You play beautifully.” “Aw thanks. Clara… why are you crying?” I touched my cheeks and noticed that I was indeed crying. “Your playing… brought tears to my eyes” I lied. How could I tell him the truth? The whip marks from earlier stung and I was in extreme pain. Asher wiped my eyes and caressed my cheek softly.

“Don’t cry…” he said, softly. My eyes widened at how gentle he was. He was so unlike my father. I never knew that people could be kind. “One day… I’ll be famous! My music will bring smiles to everyone!” He smiled at me and I said, “That’s a wonderful dream.” “Then… I will marry you.” I looked up at him in shock but he was completely serious. “I am serious. Clara Hayward… when I am famous, you will be my wife and that is a promise!” He pinky promised me and kissed my cheek.

“Clara! Get in here!” I heard my father roar. I looked back at Asher. “Someday… I will find you again. Goodbye, Clara Hayward. Until I see you again.” He kissed my hand and then left. “CLARA! DON’T MAKE ME CALL YOU AGAIN!” Asher Hadley… I thought. That was the last time I ever saw him again…

    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I awoke tied to a ceiling. Where am I? “Ah… you finally awoke, Clara.” I scowled for I knew only one person who would mock me by that name… Jinx Hayward, my half-brother. “Release me immediately Jinx!” He wagged his finger. “No. I have many plans for you… dear sister.” He said that with cruelty behind it. “Where are we?” I hissed. “Inside Big Ben” he said. “Now… let’s see how everything is…” he chuckled darkly, holding a medical needle.

I gulped and in my current state… there was nothing I could do. Jinx had me trapped… inside Big Ben. The clock struck and I saw that it was 10 o’clock. “What do you plan to do with me?”

“I want those gorgeous eyes of yours” Jinx said, cupping my face. I spat in his face and he scowled. The medical needle was close to my skin. “Hmm… what should I do first? Cut out your internal organs or just sedate you long enough and cut out your eyes? I really do want those eyes of yours. Tough choice. Hmm… well Father did say I could do whatever I wanted to you as long as I didn’t kill you for you see, he has his own plans involving you.” “What does he want with me?” “If I told you that, then it wouldn’t be as exciting” Jinx chuckled.

Jinx smiled sadistically and I saw the needle getting closer to my skin. “I know what I’ll do. I’ll use you as a lab experiment. This will be fun, won’t it?” “Get that thing away from me!” Even though my wrists were tied, I could still use my legs. I sung forward and kicked him hard. There was no way I was giving up without a fight. My aim was perfect for I kicked Jinx where it counted…

He fell down and I heard him hiss, “You’re going to pay for that… Clara.” “That horrid name is forever lost. The name is Oleander Poison. Lady Oleander Poison.” Jinx grabbed my foot and pulled me down. I screamed for it felt like I was being pulled in half. “You. Are. Going. To. Wish. You. Never. Did. That.” Jinx’s emerald orbs had a sinister light and then the needle stabbed my skin. I gasped as he pressed down on it. My eyes drooped from the needle and then my world went black… again.

    (3rd person)

Severin and Asher were out looking for Oleander. Milady… where could you be? Severin was getting exhausted from walking around looking for her but Asher seemed determined. “Where do you think he could of gone?” Asher asked. He was still wearing the white suit from the theatre but his body showed no sign of exhaustion. “I have no clue. She could be anywhere.” “We’re just not looking hard enough. You know if you really cared about her, then you would know where she’s at!”

Severin stood up and he was several inches taller than Asher. “Don’t you dare question my loyalty and don’t you dare say I don’t care about her!” he thundered. “I raised her and she is very dear to me.” Asher was furious and he shouted, “Then why isn’t she here!? If you actually did your duty and protected her, she wouldn’t be in this mess!”

“I had enough of you. I will find her myself!” Severin said as he turned around. Asher was staring at Big Ben. “Wait! Severin!” “What is it?” “Look up there.”

Asher pointed to Big Ben and Severin turned to look. At his horror, he saw Oleander tied to Big Ben’s minute hand. “Milady!” he cried as he and Asher ran towards the massive clock tower.

    (Normal P.O.V)

Why are you out here all alone?” a voice asked. I turned to see a man who was dressed in black and was very handsome. My eyes were wet with tears for I was crying all day. “Don’t cry, Miss Hayward.” He gently touched my cheek and wiped my tears with a white handkerchief. “My name is Severin Kain and I am the Hayward butler. Please don’t cry because for now on, I will always be here to keep you happy… milady.” He bowed to me and handed me a white oleander. Since that day, Severin taught me everything I was to know and when the name ‘Clara Hayward’ disappeared, he still stood by my side and raised me like I was his own. I am very grateful to him for he taught me everything. He was my father, my parent, my everything… and I knew that he would always be there for me.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I opened my eyes again and saw that I was dangling from Big Ben on the outside. Sheesh Jinx, I never knew you wanted me dead this much, I thought. “It’s your choice Clara… I can either cut out your eyes or I can cut this rope and it will be the end of you. Make your choice for as soon as Big Ben strikes 12, there won’t be a first option.” It was almost 12 o’clock but I silently glared at Jinx. Then I looked down and saw Severin and Asher Hadley hurrying to the clock tower.

“I’d rather be dead than have you rip out my eyes!” I spat. “What a shame. I guess I’ll just cut the eyes out of your corpse. Farewell, Clara.” Jinx cut the rope and down I fell. “SEVERIN!!!!!!!!! CATCH ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I closed my eyes waiting for death but then I heard a THUD!

I opened my eyes and saw that I was in Severin’s arms. Jinx hissed and said, “One day… you will be mine, sister and those eyes of yours will be ripped out of your skull!” He vanished… again and I sighed. “Severin, please take me home.” After all this excitement… I’m never going to the theatre ever again… I thought.

Chapter Six- Jezebel Hayward and the Wax Dolls

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 11:11 am

    6. Jezebel Hayward & the Wax Dolls

“Welcome home, Milady” a few maids said as Severin, Asher and I walked into the gates. “As you were” I said. “Umm… Milady? Venezia Disraeli and her children are here.” ‘WHAT!? Didn’t you tell them that I was out!?” “I tried but Lady Disraeli said that she would wait for you to return and Lady Rahzel also insisted on waiting for you to return.” I slapped myself in the forehead for my idiot staff were so incompetent. “Fine, fine. Return to your posts.” “Oleander… I kind of have something that I would like to talk to you about…” Asher asked. “Not now, Mr. Hadley. Let me deal with one crisis at a time.” I rubbed my temples and said, “We’ll talk later, Mr. Hadley.”

I entered the parlor and everything was peaceful. Venezia was drinking tea with her dark blue dress on and choker. Rahzel was sitting on the floor with a doll and Azareal was reading a book. “Oleander!” Rahzel said cheerfully as she ran to hug me. Venezia and Azareal looked up and Venezia said, “Ah there you are, my friend.” “Good evening, Venezia. To what is it that I owe this honor? Rahzel, release me.”

“There have been a number of mysterious disappearances all over London.” I gave her a bored expression. “This concerns me… why?” “It concerns her Majesty. She has requested that you will find out the cause of this.” I sighed and said, “At her Majesty’s request, I will find the culprit.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“The disappearances have been occurring in the countryside. It seems that before each and everyone of them vanished, they received a letter from this address. Those are all the leads I can give you, Oleander. Be safe.”

I closed my eyes, remembering what Venezia told me. “Milady, we are almost there” I heard Severin say. The carriage stopped and I stepped out. The house I saw looked very old and to me, death surrounded it. I looked at the envelope to make sure this was the right address. “This is the right address… I don’t like the looks of this at all.”

I kept observing the small house with my eyes. Severin was beside me and then the door opened to reveal an old lady maid. “Hello there young ones. What brings you here to our humble home?” “Good evening. I have heard from many locals that people have been disappearing after coming to this house?” “I do not know what you are talking about miss. I am just a humble maid who serves her mistress.” “Oh? May I come in and meet your mistress?”

I could sense that the maid stiffed up but she still smiled and said, “Of course. I’ll put on some tea.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Severin and I were led into a parlor. It wasn’t much but there were a few chairs and couches with a table and fireplace. “My mistress… will be down shortly” the nurse said as she set the tea down. I nodded and waited while Severin was observing the area. The maid soon came back with a figure in black.

“Hello. Welcome to my home. My name is Elizabeth Forte and I am the head of the family. It is very nice to meet you.” Elizabeth looked so young, like maybe eight or nine years old. She had a pale complexion with dark brown eyes and short, shoulder length brown hair. I gave a small smile. “Not to worry Miss Forte. I am Lady Poison and this is my butler Severin Kain. I just hope you don’t mind if I ask you a few questions.”

Elizabeth sat down and the maid handed her a cup of tea. “Not at all Lady Poison.” “You are aware that many people who have visited your house have been missing for months now, correct?” Elizabeth froze and looked at her maid. “Hildegarde, you haven’t told me of this.” “It is fine mistress. I think that our guests are just a little confused is all.”

I took a sip of my tea and I noticed that something was wrong with it. “Hidegarde… I’m sleepy…” Elizabeth said. “I’ll escort our guests out and then I will tuck you to bed.” Hildegarde turned to me and said, “I apologize but you have to leave now.” She pushed both Severin and I out the door and then slammed it shut.

“Well… that was odd” Severin said, brushing the dirt off from his tailcoat. “Indeed… it almost looked… like she was hiding something…” I said, staring back at the house. “Milady… what are your orders?” “Let’s go home for now… but I would like to come back and investigate.” “Yes milady.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

Hildegarde watched from the upstairs window and turned to Elizabeth. “Mistress… what do you suppose we do about our visitors?” Elizabeth was silent until a voice said, “Dispose of them.” Hildegarde smiled cruelly as she went to her mistress and hugged her head. “Your wish is my command… mistress.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

A young girl of about eleven to twelve years old was walking the streets until she finally reached her destination: Oleander Poison’s manor. She knocked on the door, despite the cold, drenching rain against her weak body. The door opened and she said before passing out, ‘Help… me…”

    (Normal P.O.V)

Severin brought a small girl into the guest room. I stayed there until she woke up. She was in bad shape. Her pale body was covered with dirt and scratches while her black hair was a complete mess. She groaned a bit before opening her eyes which I saw were green. “Wh… Where am I?” she asked. “You passed out just before you came in the mansion. Now can you answer a question of my own: why are you here?”

“You were recently at the Forte house, weren’t you? I have some information for you…” “Is that so?” I asked, raising my eyebrow. I turned to the female maid. “Lillian, please clean this girl up and then bring her in the study where we can talk.” “Yes milady” Lillian said, helping the girl to the bathroom.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Milady, she is ready to come in” Lillian said. “Let her in” I said, as Lillian let the girl in. When I saw her, I froze. Her hair was now a deep raven black and her eyes were a hypotonic blue. She reminded me of my mother…

“Please sit down” I said, when the shock passed me. She sat down across from me. “Now what is your name?” I asked. “Jezebel…” she said. “Where did you come from Jezebel?” I asked her. “I’m an orphan… but that is not why I am here. It is about your investigation. The people are locked in the basement of the Forte house. I know… because I escaped.”

I was quite intrigued by this. “You have to stop her! That evil woman tortures us and she has lost her mind. She says her mistress ordered her to do this but… Elizabeth Forte… she died five years ago.” Elizabeth Forte… is dead? How is that possible? “Elizabeth Forte perished in a fire that killed the entire Forte family five years ago. Her body was destroyed by the flames and that was when her maid vanished. She returned again and took residence in that house. Only you can save the ones that she holds captive.”

So… Elizabeth is dead, people are vanishing and that house is the most suspicious. Hmm… I thought. “Severin… please prepare a carriage. We are going back to the Forte house.”

    Chapter Seven- The Dollhouse

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 11:22 am

    7. The Dollhouse

Thunder shook the ground and lightening zipped past the dark sky. I climbed into the carriage. Jezebel sat next to me and Severin drove us there as quickly as possible. When we finally arrived there, Jezebel pointed us to a hidden cellar on the side of the house. Severin opened it and the three of us went inside, despite the lack of lighting.

“I have to hurry…. I have to hurry…” I heard someone mutter. As we walked closer, the muttering got louder and I saw that it was Hildegarde. She was standing over something and was mixing it with a spoon. “The mistress… must have more wax dolls… she must so she doesn’t feel lonely. I am her servant… and it is my job to please her. I will make these wax dolls… for her.” Hildegarde took out the spoon and I saw that there was melted wax.

She took the wax over to a casket and opened it. I gasped in shock seeing that it was a little boy who vanished a few days ago. “Now hold still… you will be a nice present for my mistress.” She poured the hot wax over his body and Severin covered my eyes as we heard the boy wail in agony. He writhed in pain as the wax covered him and then suddenly he stopped for his body soon hardened and he was nothing but a wax shell.

Hildegarde soon picked up the boy and went up the stairs, locking the basement door behind her. Severin, Jezebel and I came out of the corner and saw a bunch of wax dolls. “Milady… it’s everyone who has vanished” Severin said. I looked closely and saw that these “wax dolls” were in fact the vanished people and that they were STILL alive. “Severin… what can we do to break the wax shell?”

Severin thought for a minute. “Heat. We will have to heat the wax shell and then it will break apart.” I looked at Jezebel who nodded her head. “Jezebel… you stay with Severin and try to free these people from their waxy prisons. I’ll go upstairs and see if I can find more.” “Milady, I cannot allow that. It is too dangerous!” “Severin. I can handle myself. Jezebel cannot. If I run into any trouble, I will call you. Now start heating up the wax and freeing these poor people.”

I turned and went up the basement stairs but not before lighting a candle so I could see. The whole house was dark and there was no sign of Hildegarde or Elizabeth Forte. I still kept my guard up as I walked around. Silence. This doesn’t sound good… I thought. “Mistress… is there anything else that you will like before I tuck you in bed?” Elizabeth Forte laid on her bed, staring out the window. “No thank you, Hildegarde…” she murmured to which Hildegarde bowed and exited the bedroom.

Once Hildegarde was out of sight, I snuck inside Elizabeth’s bedroom. “Who are you?” Elizabeth asked. I turned around and got a good look at her. She looked human but I could see that she was made entirely of different colored wax. “Miss Poison?” she asked. I nodded my head. She smiled when she saw me. “Jezebel found you! Oh thank goodness!”

I looked at her confused. “I sent you. I want you to stop Hildegarde so I can finally… rest in peace.” “What do you mean… you want us to stop her?” Elizabeth nodded. “Please… end this madness…” “I thought as much. Lady Poison… you and your servants are getting on my nerves. I’m going to turn you into a beautiful wax doll for my collection. As well as you mistress… I am sorry… but I deserve to be happy too… serving you for all eternity, right?”

The room was soon filled with purple smoke and I could feel myself getting sleepy and my vision blurry. “Sev… er… rin…” I muttered before both I and Elizabeth passed out.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

    (3rd person)

I remember what happened. The fire broke out and I was so young. Mother and Father tried everything to save me from the flames but when we were so close to escaping, the roof collapsed, killing all of us instantly. Then for some reason, my maid Hildegarde, lost her mind and resurrected me. I never thought that this would happen…

    (Normal P.O.V)

I awoke my eyes to see that I was tied up with Elizabeth. We were dangling over a pot of melting, boiling wax. Elizabeth awoke and Hildegarde smirked cruelly at us both. “Hildegarde… what do you want?” Elizabeth sounded scared. “Mistress… the only thing that I want is to stay by your side forever and ever. Is that to much to ask?” Hildegarde… I perished in the fire five years ago. Why can’t I rest in peace?” “Mistress Forte… my wish is to be by your side for eternity. Which is why… I consulted the Dark Arts after your death and learned how to summon your spirit inside this wax doll that I made over your body. If it keeps us together… then I didn’t care if people did call me crazy.

I captured people when they came to investigate and then that was when I noticed you were getting lonely, mistress. So I created these wax figurines of the people I captured to keep you company but then… you, Lady Poison and your damn servant had to screw all my plans up. No matter… I can make you both into lovely dolls.”

Hildegarde held out a knife and I flinched. Suddenly, the door slammed open and I saw Severin. “If you lay as much as one hand on my mistress, it will not end pleasantly for you.” Hildegarde hissed and held the knife up to the rope. “Take one step and she’s wax!” she threatened. Severin glared at Hildegarde and I began to look for a way out of here.

“Psst… Lady Poison… I have a plan” Elizabeth whispered. “Enlighten me” I whispered. “Take the knife from my gown. I will swing us back and forth. When you are away from the cauldron… cut yourself free. However… I will not survive for my wax body will snap the remaining rope and I will plummet into the boiling cauldron.” “Are you sure that you want to do this?”

Elizabeth was silent but I could see that she had a small grin on her face. “I’m never been more sure than this. It is wrong to bring the dead back from the living. Set me free. I will now start to swing.” I reached inside Elizabeth’s pocket and found a small but sharp knife. She started to swing and once I was away from the cauldron, I cut the rope that was holding me. Hildegarde turned around and saw that I escaped. She turned back to Elizabeth and screamed in pure horror: “NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Goodbye… Hildegarde.” The rope snapped and Elizabeth fell inside the boiling pot. “MISTRESS!!!!!!!!!” Hildegarde screamed. She fell to her knees for all that was left of Elizabeth was the broken pieces of the wax that was around her body and the melted wax on the floor. “I think it is safe to say that this mystery is solved. Let’s arrest this poor woman, Severin.”

“This… wouldn’t have happened… if you just stayed out of my business!” Hildegarde held up the knife in her hand and with a crazed look in her eye started to lunge at me. In a flash, Severin was in front of me and knocked the knife away from her and punched Hildegarde in the stomach. “I warned you that if you lay as much as a hand on her, that it wouldn’t end pleasantly for you” he repeated, just as Hildegarde passed out on his arm.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

It wasn’t long until the Scotland Yard appeared to arrest Hildegarde. All the wax victims were unharmed, surprisingly, and had no memory of what happened. That was the end of that.

    (3rd person)

Hildegarde was arrested and she was lead away from the Forte house. She hung her head in shame. I failed you, mistress. I have shamed the Forte family… forgive me… she thought. Suddenly, a bright light shone over Hildegarde. Then Elizabeth appeared before Hildegarde. “Hildegarde… Hildegarde…” she murmured until she got the old woman’s attention.

Hildegarde’s eyes widened when she saw the spirit manifestation of Elizabeth’s spirit in front of her. “Mi-Mistress?” she asked, astounded. “Hildegarde… Mother and Father and I are waiting for you… come with me… and we can be together forever” Elizabeth smiled, while holding out her pale hand. That was all I ever wanted, mistress Elizabeth. To stay beside you forever… for you remind me of my own child… I guess you can say… I love you, mistress Elizabeth. Hildegarde took Elizabeth’s hand and then there was a bright flash of light. I love you… which is why I never parted from you. I love you… mistress Elizabeth.

    (3rd person)

“Whoa, she’s dead, Chief!” an officer said, as he found Hildegarde. She was lying dead with a smile on her face. “Call the Undertaker then. She deserves a proper burial.” So Hildegarde is dead, eh? I saw the scene and then I put my head down. “Mistress… look” Severin said as he pointed to a bright light. I turned and I saw the manifestations of both Hildegarde and Elizabeth Forte. Hildegarde was smiling and Elizabeth stood beside her. “Thank you” she murmured before she vanished, along with Hildegarde.

I smiled slightly as I looked up at the sky. “Wherever those two are… I hope that Elizabeth Forte can finally rest in peace.” With that, another mystery was solved.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Lady Poison, I can’t thank you enough for saving my friends from that maid.” “It was no trouble at all, considering her Majesty was concerned over it.” Jezebel bowed as she smiled. “Well… I guess I will see you around.” Jezebel turned to leave but I looked at Severin, who nodded. “Jezebel… how would you like to live here? The streets is no where for a girl like you. So how about it? I can sign the adoption papers, immediately.”

Jezebel seemed shock as she stared back at me. “You seem so young though.” “Jezebel… I am serious. I will introduce the court to you as my younger adopted sister… and that will be your role as an aristocrat.” Jezebel was still shocked but she admitted defeat. “Well… if you insist, Lady Poison.” “Severin, please take Jezebel to her room and I will sign the adoption papers immediately.”

As Severin led Jezebel away, the only thing that was on my mind was that Jezebel had to be a biological sister of mine because she looked exactly like my mother.
In a few days time, Jezebel was officially my younger sister. I vow to make sure that you aren’t taken away from me again… mother. I made a vow that I would keep Jezebel safe… even if it meant from myself.

Chapter Eight- The mad tea Party

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 12th 2012, 6:20 pm

    8. The mad tea Party

It was late spring when Jezebel finally joined my family. She is headstrong but naïve and innocent like mother was. I didn’t want to invite her into this cruel world of mine. We were out in the garden drinking afternoon tea and Severin arrived with a new letter for me. “What is this, Severin?” “It is an invitation, milady. It seems that Lord Hemingley is holding a tea party this afternoon and would like you as well as Lady Jezebel to attend.” I sighed as I took a sip of my tea. “Lord Hemingley, huh? How come I never heard of him?”

“He is only newly rich. Though, how he obtained his wealth is unknown. Shall I send your reply?” “That won’t be necessary, Severin. I think this will be a great party to introduce Jezebel.” I walked over to the window. “I think… a tea party wouldn’t be so bad. Prepare a carriage for Lord Hemingley’s manor at once.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Once the preparations were made, we set off to Lord Hemingley’s manor. Once we arrived, I saw that this was merely another social gathering for the young lord’s son to pick a bride. How clever...I thought. Jezebel was excited for these sort of events. She was wearing a dress of one of my favorite colors which was a deep royal blue. She had stripped stockings on and black heels with straps. Her hair was down and tied with a black ribbon. She reminded me of a storybook character that she was recently obsessed with by reading the books every night.

“Oleander, why do you think Lord Hemingley wants us here?” Jezebel asked. “It’s obvious that he wants his young son to pick a bride. Jezebel, you are too young to get married. Do you understand?” “Yes, I understand” she replied, staring absentmindedly out the window.

When the carriage came to a stop, Severin opened the door and I exited first. Jezebel came out next and she had a bubbly attitude to the social life. “Ladies and gentlemen, I am so pleased that you could visit. My son, Richard Hemingley, will be down shortly. Until then, socialize, drink tea and of course, dance!” Lord Hemingley beamed at his guests before disappearing up the grand staircase. I saw that many of the young men were approaching Jezebel and striking a conversation with her. A smirk escaped my lips for I knew that one of the new topics of discussing will be about Jezebel, my sister.

Suddenly, I heard a scream and then the lights went out. When the lights flashed on, we saw a hysterical maid shaking. “It’s Master Richard! I think he is dead!” she shrieked. Well… another death to solve...I thought.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Severin and I headed to the scene of the crime and we saw that Lord Richard Hemingley was stabbed mercilessly in his own bedchamber. I took great account of how well this plan was carried out. One thing that I saw as odd was that there was no sign of a struggle, so it had to be a complete surprise. The next thing I saw was that someone left a note that was written in the young lord’s blood.

I picked up the note and read. What does that even mean? I thought, re-reading the strange note again. “Milady, did you find anything?” Severin asked. I showed him the note and he read it aloud:

    Twinkle, twinkle little bat
How I wonder what you’re at!
Up above the world you fly
Like a tea tray in the sky.

“Sounds like a poem” Severin concluded as he read. “Indeed it does but things like this always leave hidden cryptic meanings especially at a scene like this” I said, looking at the note. I turned to the guests and the servants. “As of now, none of you are permitted to leave this mansion for someone in here murdered the lord. Until I see it, everyone here is guilty until proven innocent.” I said, which everyone erupted into shocked stares and whispers.

“This is crazy!” shouts were heard as well as, “I didn’t do it!” We have no sure way that you are all innocent. Somebody murdered Lord Hemingley. If I am right, there could be a possible motive behind this all…
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

The guests were all sitting in their seats. I sat down in front of them with Severin standing beside me. “Good evening. As you know, our host. Richard Hemingley was murdered in his bed. He was stabbed mercilessly and the killer left behind this cryptic note. Now I would like to hear all your stories of what happened when the lights went out.” One by one, they told me their stories and it was very easy to tell who the liars were and who were the telling the truth. It wasn’t until I interviewed the servants was when I started to put the puzzle pieces together.

“Gerald Battler, age fifty, Hemingley’s butler” I said, reading his description. “Tell me what you saw when the lights dimmed.” Gerald Battler was an old butler with gray hair and wore a tailcoat suit similar to Severin’s. “Well, when the lights went out, I was going to the master’s bedchamber to serve him his tea but when I down the hall, someone was in the master’s bedchamber for I noticed a shadowy silhouette leave the room. I followed the stranger but when I left to see who it is was, that was when I heard the news that the master had expired.”

“A butler shows the utmost and highest loyalty to one’s master.” Severin commented, bowing his head to Gerald Battler. When interviewing Gerald, there was another scream, this time in the main hall. Sarah Hemingley, Richard’s wife, also laid dead on the ground. She was also stabbed to death. Beside her body was also another cryptic note. I picked it up and read:

Down the rabbit hole, Alice went.
    Down, down, down .
Into wonderland she enters, never to be seen again.
“Off with her head!” the Queen shouts!
    Bye bye, little Alice.
    Sleep well.

After reading the note, I figured out whom the next target would be: Alice Hemingley. “Severin, go get me Alice. If my theory is correct, the killer will approach her next.” “Yes, milady.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Alice Hemingley was blonde, about eight years old and had green eyes. “Alice, can you tell me who would want to kill your parents?” Alice looked scared as she clutched her little toy rabbit. “Mama and Daddy are gone…’ she had tears in her eyes. “Are they coming after me, next?” “Don’t worry, I have a plan.”
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

That night, I put the plan into motion. We waited for the killer to strike. As if on cue, the shadowy silhouette emerged and I caught them.

“Gerald Battler… butler and killer” I smirked. “How did you know it was me?” “The door to Hemingley’s bedchamber was locked. Only you, would have his bedroom key.” Severin seemed disappointed. “You have dishonored yourself. How can you call yourself a butler?” “I was only respecting my master’s wish. The Hemingleys destroyed us and got rich from that. We wanted vengeance” Gerald explained. “You were going to kill Alice, weren’t you? That is why you left those Alice in Wonderland clues.”

“It was all for vengeance and Leviathan promised-” Leviathan!? “Tell me. What is Leviathan and what is their goal!?” I said. “Leviathan is a top secret society that deals with the art of black magic. They have an insidious goal in mind and one thing is certain, they are after you. Oh no… they will kill me now that I’ve told you!” “Why me?” I asked. “I don’t know… but they need your blood. You heard all the mysterious kidnappings of people? That’s them. They need human blood but I do not know for what. I’ve said too much. Go. Go now!” Gerald said.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

"So they want me?” I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Now the real game begins! I am coming for you, Leviathan!”

    Chapter Nine- Cat and Mouse

Post  Ivana Braginska on October 15th 2012, 5:44 pm

    9. Cat and Mouse

I sat at my desk looking over documents and thinking about what Gerald said about Leviathan. They need my blood…? For what purpose? What is their insidious agenda? There was a knock at the door. “Come in” I said, not looking up. It was Asher and I looked up to see that he was serious. “Yes, Mr. Hadley?” “Lady Poison… there is something I have to discuss with you.”

I raised my eyebrow. ‘What would that be?” “I would like your hand in marriage” Asher said, to which I stared at him. “My hand? Marriage? I don’t recall accepting a marriage proposal.” I blinked and then Severin appeared outside the doorway. “Pardon the intrusion, milady but this arrived for you from her Majesty.” Severin handed me a letter which held the royal seal and I opened it.

    Dear Lady Poison,

I apologize for the inconvenience but there is no one else that I can turn to. I am well aware of the number of missing citizens. I have addressed the matter to the Scotland Yard but so far there have been no leads. You are the person that I can only rely on. I have heard rumors that the great Lady Oleander Poison is cursed and that an underground organization is after you. By my degree, I request that you eliminate the threat at once. Please help me achieve my dream of making London a safe place for all.
    Sincerely yours,
    Her Majesty, Queen Victoria

I put the letter back in the envelope and turned to Severin. “Severin, her Majesty requests that we put a stop to Leviathan. It’s time to go back to work. Mr. Hadley, feel free to come with us but if not, then watch over my sister.” I put the letter down and grabbed my cloak.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

I went inside Jezebel’s room. Jezebel was sitting by her window as she sipped her afternoon tea. I knew that she was taking a break from her lessons. “Jezebel” I said, smiling a bit. She turned around and her sapphire orbs met mine. “Hello sister” she murmured. “I’m going out on some business for her Majesty. Can you be a good girl and wait here for me?” I asked her.

“Can’t I come, sister? All I do is lesson after lesson and I barely have time to spend outdoors. Please?” she pouted. I did not want Jezebel to come because it would be too dangerous for her. “I apologize but Jezebel this is strictly personal matters. You are to remain here” I said, firmly. “Staying in this big empty mansion is boring!” Jezebel whined. I sighed and looked at Severin.

“If you don’t wish to wait here, I’ll take you to the Disraeli’s family mansion, instead. You can entertain her children for a bit. That is my offer.” Jezebel was silent for a moment and then she sighed in defeat. “I’ll take that as a ‘yes’” I smirked, in triumph. Severin went outside and we climbed in the carriage. Jezebel was silent the whole time and I wondered what was wrong with my sister.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

“Oleander! You came to visit me!” Rahzel said, as she hugged my leg. I looked down at her. “I apologize Rahzenshia, but I am only hear to drop off my sister, Jezebel.” Jezebel walked beside me and Rahzel stared at her. The two looked so alike, the resemblance was uncanny. At last, Rahzel smiled and said innocently, “You’ll play with me, right?” Jezebel smiled kindly. “Yes. I’m Jezebel. It’s nice to meet you, Razhenshia.” “Call me, Rahzel!” she beamed to which Jezebel smiled. “Well, I’ll be going now’ I said, curtsying to the girls. “Oleander! When you get back, we are playing!” Rahzel shouted. Playtime will have to wait. I have much bigger things to handle.

Severin started to drive the carriage again while Asher and I were silent. “Oleander, I-” “I’d appreciate it if you kept all personal talk to yourself” I said, a bit coldly. He was silent and soon the carriage stopped.
    ♠ † ♠ † ♠

Severin stopped the carriage in front of the docks and I stepped out. “Where are we?” Asher asked. “The docks. We’re going to visit… an old friend of mine…” I explained as Severin opened the gate for me. Once inside, I nearly gagged at the smell of smoke. “Who is this old friend?” “Chinese settler. He runs the underground drug faction. Who else should know about the underground world than one who partakes in it?” I smirked and walked in.

    (3rd person)

Huan Chang was a Chinese man who enjoyed the comfort and luxury of life. He sat, surrounded by his Chinese prostitutes while smoking from his pipe. Upon the arrival of Lady Poison, he smirked. “Ladies, we have guests. Please behave yourself.”

    (Normal P.O.V.)

Severin opened the door and a large gust of smoke flew at my face. “Ah, *ni hao wo de lao pengyou*” Huan said. “Can’t you do something about that infernal odor?” I asked, as I glared coldly at him. “Why? I’m just enjoying the luxuries of life as the British do while they drink tea” Huan smirked. “Frankly, I have never had that pleasure. Now, can you please get serious for five minutes.”

Huan stared at his favorite prostitute, Xiuying, whom was sitting on his lap in a dark blue Chinese dress. “What do you think Xiuying? Should we help, Lady Poison?” he asked her. Xiuying was silent but her brown eyes stared into Huan’s and he nodded. “Fine. I will help you in any way I can. What is it that you wish to know?”

“Ever heard of an organization called ‘Leviathan’?” Huan thought for a moment and then smiled. “Nope” he said to me and due to knowing him for so long, I knew he was lying. “Tell me what you know.” Huan stared back at Asher and Severin who were standing outside the doorway. “Come away from the door, my flowers” he told the girls. I paid no attention and stared back at him. “Tell me what you know Huan. In your line of work, I’m sure you deal with shady people.”

Huan tapped his chin and smirked. ‘It will require compensation” he smirked. “How much money do you want?” I sighed. “I don’t want your money. I want your body.” I stared at him confused and disturbed. What did he mean by that? I hope it’s not what I think it is… I thought. Huan snapped his fingers and a Chinese girl came over to me with some measuring tape.

“Huan? What are you doing!?” I asked him. “Hold still or Yanmei won’t measure right” he smiled. “Why are you measuring me!?” “Master, it looks like it will fit her” Yanmei told Huan who grinned wider. “Excellent. Xiuying, do you mind getting it?” Xiuying disappeared and then in a flash, she reappeared with a green and gold Chinese dress.

“For compensation, I will tell you everything you want if you do me a little favor.” “Which would be…?” “An important, mystery client of mine is appearing tonight for a deal. All I ask is for you to pose as one of my little flowers. Maybe this may be the man who may have the answers you seek my little *du*.” I’d rather drop dead then wear something as revealing as that…

What do you say, Xioling?” Huan smirked. “Already suggested an alias for me? How thoughtful” I said, sarcastically. Staring at the short and revealing dress in my hand. I looked at Severin and thought about the situation at hand. “Fine. I’ll humor you” I said to which Huan smirked. This is all just a game of cat and mouse… as soon as I get a lead from this Chinese pervert, I will finally have my revenge on Leviathan.
