    Restless night

Post  Magnus Densen on December 29th 2012, 2:36 pm

Shining proudly up in the sky was the full moon covered by the silky blankets of dark clouds, gently caressing it, concealing it and revealing it. Wolves howled their majestic song and dark, flying forms that resembled bats flapped their wings above the sleeping woods.
It was a rather peaceful night; aside from the crickets' song, the flames of a nearby torch and the occasional shifting sounds of the leaves in the breeze, it was quiet.
The crossbow rested casually on a Hungarian soldier's lap. Her back was resting against the trunk of a tree whereas her left foot gently dangled back and forth by a branch.
She was a teenage female soldier wearing manly clothes. Up until recently, the girl thought of herself as a boy, but time proved her wrong. Concealing her chest had become difficult and her slender appearance in spite of her training had drawn rumours and eyes upon her.
She was certain they figured it out by now.
Slender fingers stroked the loaded arrow and halted on the sharpened tip where she tapped it playfully. It grazed her finger slightly, however, she didn't mind the stinging pain at all.
Tonight was going to be a long night...

Despite the lateness of the night, another happened to be out. They were hardly welcomed; a small rabbit skittered in the opposite direction, the crickets' around them fell silent and brought forth an eerie silence that canceled out the peaceful undertone. They possessed a ghostly appearance within the darkness of the woods, save for when they smiled; pointed, pearl-white teeth revealed in the process.
It was no coincidence that they would come upon the area the Hungarian currently rested. The Hungarian had been tracked down and followed, for personal reasons the Prussian cared not to share. She had always been interested in the Hungarian.
The light of the torch reflected off the extraordinary magenta orbs the Prussian possessed, but given the lack of it, they seemed crimson instead. A mischievous grin would curl their lips before they spoke, hoping to startle the poor soldier.

"Evening," The Prussian spoke flatly, her speech heavy with accent. Her gaze momentarily dropped to the crossbow and she smirked, "Waiting on someone? You of all people know it is not safe to be out on your lonesome."

The tip of the arrow lightly grazed the wooden surface of the weapon as her skilful fingers worked on finding the perfect angle. Her useless hobby distracted her from her surroundings, her guard gradually decreasing. She would peak forward at the base of the trees and bushes whenever a suspicious sound was made, but as the night progressed, she became more reckless about it until she fully ignored them.
She brought the crossbow closer to her eye, aiming for the darker spot in the bushes and loaded an arrow.

    Alfred F. Jones wrote:"Evening,"

Taken aback by the greeting, she gasped and pulled on the trigger harshly, sending the handmade arrow randomly towards the sky. "WHAT THE--?!"
It only took her a second to lose her balance and swing back on the branch with her head hanging upside down and the weapon to fly out of her grip.
Elizaveta had to blink a few times to realise what happened. That voice -- she could recognise it anywhere! "J-Julchen, what the hell?!"

The Prussian could not resist the devious smile that curled her lips when the Hungarian lost control of her weapon. She didn't bother watching the arrow that shot aimlessly into the sky; rather, with relative ease, she stepped forward to catch the crossbow before it touched the ground.
With Elizaveta's frame back and her head hanging upside down, Julchen flashed another smile of pointed teeth. They were at eye-level, despite the Hungarian being upside down. It wasn't like Julchen to explain herself or to give a rat's ass if she had done something wrong, so instead of apologizing for spooking Elizaveta, she said,
    "Ja, it is I."
The Prussian took a single step forward, nearly touching her forehead to the Hungarian's, knowing very well how displeased Elizaveta would be with her intrusion of personal space. "You made it very easy to sneak up on you, Elizaveta. You're lucky it was I who found you and not someone who'd like to take that pretty little head off yours," She paused to touch her index finger to the tip of Elizaveta's nose in a playful gesture, "Off."
