    Welcome to Chemistry!!

Hello Students. My name is Viorica Dumitru. I will be your Chemistry teacher. We will study the basics of Chemistry: atoms and molecules; chemical calculations; gases; electron configuration; periodic properties and chemical bonding; and liquids, solutions and ionization; as well as parts of: chemical kinetics and equilibrium; acids and bases; oxidation-reduction reactions and electrochemistry; and organic chemistry. Notes are vital in this course. Lazy note-taking and an ignorance to the lessons may just guarantee you a failing grade in this course. I would recommend study every night. Pop quizzes will be given without warning.

If you do not understand a concept, I urge you to come speak to me about it. I am more than willing to take the time to explain anything you are having trouble with. Being confused about anything in chemistry can be dangerous.

We will do labs every week or so that will help you to understand the concepts we are covering. Proper lap equipment and safety materials will be provided. Lab Safety Protocol is to be followed at all times. Fail to do so will result in serious consequences.

    Class Rules
    • Pay attention.
    • No goofing off. You will be punished accordingly if you do.
    • Respect your teacher.
    • Be kind and helpful to your other classmates.
    • No Cheating. Cheating will result in violations.
    • Follow the Lab Safety Rules.
    • Turn assignments in on time.
    • Absolutely NO playing with sharp objects.
    • Enjoy the course. It is meant to be fun as well as informational.
Grades will be derived form the following: tests, 100 points each; quizzes, 40 to 80 points each; lab write-ups and homework, 20 to 80 points each; and the exam will account for 60% of the final grade. Grades will be reduced to 50% for Lab Reports and Homework turned in ONE day past the due date. If not turned in on that day the grade will be ZERO and the work will not be accepted. It is your sole responsibility to turn in work on time or within the stipulated deadline.

You will have homework in this course EVERYNIGHT. Even when written work is not assigned you MUST study your notes to be prepared on a daily basis.

    Introduction Into Chemistry 14brwa9

It was a new day and Victoria Kirkland arrived in her next class which was Chemistry with Viorica Dumitru. She saw that the science room was vacant. She took out her silver pocket watch and saw that she was a few minutes early.

    Hmm... that's odd...

She took a seat in the front and waited for the teacher to arrive. Whilst doing do, she took out her reading book, Suck It Up by Brian Meehl and sat there, waiting for class to begin.

The steady pace of heels against linoleum flooring seemed to be only sound throughout the science hallway. The students were still at lunch and it was the perfect chance for the young teacher to prepare for her next set of students. She walked up to the door and took out a set of keys, unlocking the door with a sharp 'click'. She walked in and flipped on the light, setting her things down on her desk. She looked over her curriculum for the day and turned to the whiteboard behind her, grabbing a dry erase marker and beginning to write.

    ATOMS AND MOLECULES
    I.

Satisfied with the setup as it was, she sat down in her chair and continued to read through her notes, arranging a seating chart and lab tables. When the bell for the end of lunch rang, she sighed. The students would soon be arriving and it was sure to be an interesting day.

A young teen of about 16 suddenly opened the door to the chemistry class. He swung open the door by accident, making it almost crash into the wall. He caught it just in time, much to his relief. His hair was a mess, which he quickly fixed by patting it down. He also fixed his glasses and carefully closed the door behind him.

He silently set his things on a nearby desk, hoping he wasn't late once again. He gave a small smile to the teacher. "Hola maestra, will we be starting soon?"

The teacher looked up as the door slammed, letting out a small sigh.

"Ah, welcome. We should be starting soon. I only hope your classmates show. What's your name?"

She offered him a small smile. He looked like a smart boy, and didn't seem like a troublemaker, or so she hoped.

He sighed in relief, he was the first one to show up. He took a seat, glanced at the board, then at his teacher. He wasn't very good at this subject, but he would try it out anyway.

He looked at the teacher once more when she spoke to him. "I am Manuel, señora. And what may I call you?" He tilted his head a bit, something about this teacher seemed new to him. It was strange, what was it about her?

"And I do not think they'll be here soon. But better late than never, right?"

"It's a pleasure to meet you Manuel. You may call me Ms. Dumitru or Ms. Via."

She chuckled and nodded with a smirk.

"Very true~ I believe we should start without your classmates. It's an appropriate punishment for being late, after all."

She looked back at her student, walking in front of her own desk and leaning back against it casually, taking a sip from a solidly colored water bottle she kept by her personal things.

"Let's begin with something easy. Tell me about yourself. I like to get to know my students."

Mexico got more comfortable in the seat, glad that the class was going to start off so easy. He raised his finger to his chin and took a moment to think.

"Well...where can I start...I guess with the basics. In all honesty, I'm not very good in school, but I try. Science is not really my strong point, or matemáticas, or Ingles..."

He cleared his throat. "But anyway, I guess school is interesante. In my opinión, música is the best clase. Or arte, either one is fine."

He paused for a moment, unsure if anything else was necessary to say. "Eh, I guess that is all."

A blonde-haired boy with bright blue eyes, seeming to be around the age of sixteen or younger, glanced around for a moment before opening the door to the classroom and entering. Francis paused and glanced at his teacher with a warm, yet fairly charming smile.

By now, he was rather used to going around to his classes, and hoped he wasn't late. "Bonjour, mademoiselle." He greeted politelty, giving a small nod of acknowledgement and going over, sitting at one of the empty desks.

The teacher smiled in return to the boy.

"Salut~ Please, take a seat. May I have your name for attendance?"

She motioned for him to take his pick of the seats, sipping from a solid colored water bottle on her desk, the contents of which seemed invisible. She studied the new boy for a few seconds, trying to get an idea of his personality. He seemed both kind and charming, but most likely a bit of a troublemaker as well.

She introduced herself to him with a smile after marking him down for attendance.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Francis. I am Ms. Dumitru, or Ms. Viorica, if you must."

She turned to the whiteboard and began to write down a skeleton for her notes.

"Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself as we wait for your other classmates?"

For once, Alfred had shown up to class on time. He strutted into the classroom with a big grin, flipping Francis' hair up as he did so. He took his seat, which was near Mexico, and winked at the other student. "Hey there!" He greeted him. Turning his attention to his teacher, he smirked. "Have no fear, your favorite student is here." He was teasing, of course.

"Well, I-" Francis was cut off once the American entered, flipping his hair in the process. The French student scowled irritably, raising an eyebrow and glancing over his shoulder at Alfred. Knowing it wouldn't do good to start a silly argument, Francis scoffed at the American's words with a faint sneer, brushing his fairly ruffled hair back into place. Already, he could tell Alfred was the troublemaking type, if it wasn't already obvious enough. Francis straightened up attentively, although he was indeed prepared to snap at the American if he needed to.

The Transylvanian teacher sighed and shot the the American boy an annoyed look.

"Please be respectful of the other students, Mr. Jones. I've heard quite a lot about you from the other faculty... So we'll have to see if that 'favorite' thing really plays out."

She smirked and marked him present, facing the two boys this time.

"Once again, I'd like to hear about both of you. Since Francis was first to class, he may go first." She nodded to the French boy. "Please, continue."

The Spaniard came in right after the American, "I am not late or anything am I?" He asked as he took a seat next to the American. He scanned the whole room, looking for familiar faces, "Ahh, my amigos are in this class." He smiled to himself in thought.

The American chuckled at what his teacher said and then turned to face Francis, amused to hear how he might introduce himself. But when the American saw Antonio enter, he waved him over and was happy to see he had taken a seat next to him. "Yo, dude!" He said beneath his breath, since he didn't want to interrupt Francis in case he might start speaking.

"Merci, Ms. Dumitru." A faintly smug glimmer flashed in the French boy's gaze, and her reverted his attention back to the teacher. "Perhaps as you can see, I'm French. Born and raised in Paris, France of course. I'm fluent in my language, as expected." Francis briefly explained, smiling a bit proudly. He glanced up as the Spaniard entered with faint curiosity, then shrugged, glancing back at his teacher and ignoring Alfred.

    Introduction Into Chemistry Teache10

It was time to get serious.

The Transylvanian teacher sat at her desk, fixing a pile of papers she had prepared for her students. Today was the beginning of their intensive note-taking. She wasn't going to accept the silliness anymore. With a quiet huff, she watched the clock tick, waiting for her first student to arrive.

On the board was written the unblemished words that had been previously there:

    ATOMS AND MOLECULES
    I.

This is where she intended to start of her student's learning process.

The young Mexican student opened the door to chemistry, remembering how he had opened it the week before. He sighed. It seemed that he was the first and only student there at the moment. Would it be that way for a while?

He walked rather irritably to the desk he sat at the week before. He was mumbling something under his breath; he had almost gotten into a fight. Luckily no one seemed to notice or hear about it, which was all the better for him. He glanced at the board, greeted his teacher, and slowly began taking the supplies out of his backpack.
